Whoa.
This show looks so interesting to me.
This show looks so interesting to me.
I’ve teared up every now and then when watching a TLC show, but just now I sat here I sobbed at Trading Spaces. Yes, Trading Spaces. The show where I laugh at people when they cry as they first see their room, because really, c’mon people, you’re on TV and it’s one thing to be excited, but cry? Cry?
Anyway, I have just finished wiping my tears from the episode I just viewed. The show ventured down to Mississippi, post Katrina. They showed the devastation, what we’ve all seen, etc. Then they started into the show, the actual renovation of the chosen room. And in true TLC style of course they were overly generous and did a bit more than the one room they were supposed to do. In one house they continued the crown molding, and I think the flooring, from the living room into the kitchen. And in the other house, even though they were working on the living room, they went out and bought them all new chrome kitchen appliances. This is not the part that got me, though I was overjoyed to see that they were able to afford to do this for these couples.
It was when they revealed the second couples new living room to them that I completely lost it. These people had been through so much. There home had once been the 10th home on the left and now was the 4th. The only thing they’d taken with them when evacuating was their mortgage and insurance documents, two days worth of clothes and their wedding album. When they returned to Mississippi, they found a mirror that had once hung in their home. That is all.
As they walked through their new room, they of course saw the obvious additions of new paint, flooring, and furniture, but it was the added touches that brought me to tears. They had refurbished the mirror and hung it. They had found pieces of granite from their former kitchen counter top and used it to build new end tables, and they found a small clock that had belonged to the husband’s grandmother. The wife of course was in tears from the minute she entered. And as they walked the husband didn’t say a word. The tears just started flowing down his face. When the designer, carpenter, and friends came in they just hugged and hugged. You could tell it was all very meaningful to these couples and to the people who helped rebuild a part of their new homes.
My thoughts after watching a day full of the HBO hit Sex & the City…
I love girl talk!
Men are the main source of all female eye-rolling, frustration, and confusion.
I’m not as old as I think I am.
Where the hell is my Steve damn it?
I am glad I haven’t had to deal with any ex-beau’s getting married yet.
I need to go shopping.
I love this show.
I have a friend with a super computer techy husband. She happened to mention that he can get recent TV shows on the computer! I was very excited and asked for the details! She sent me the sites and said that the hubby said it was very complicated…
A bit of time on Sunday and I was watching the past weeks missed shows on my computer! It was just so darn cool! Of course I was thrilled to have the shows, and the quality, man I think it looks a little better than on the TV, but I was most excited that I figured it out!
Well, believe it or not there are no shows I am religiously watching right now besides the Buffy & Charmed reruns. I’m currently tuning in to regular, live TV! I haven’t done this in weeks. I think for the summer I’ll try to find some great Animal Planet and History Channel shows to record. And maybe even a Lifetime movie or two I wanted to see what shows I can plan on in the fall. This is what I’ve found that I plan to check out at least once. I’m sure I’ll post later about what I’ve actually decided to commit to watching on a regular basis.
On Fox: Reunion, The O.C., That 70’s Show, and I’ll give House a try.
On NBC: Law & Order:CI, Scrubs & The Biggest Loser
On CBS: The Amazing Race (this one is supposed to be the family one), CSI, there are some new dramas coming out on this network too…we’ll see.
On ABC: Desperate Houswives, Grey’s Anatomy, ooh and since Charmed is off now, I’ll watch Extreme House Makeover too
On the WB: Gilmore Girls (I’ll give it another go), One Tree Hill (If Melissa can get me caught up on this season), Related (new series), Everwood (might as well finish this one out), WHAT?!?! This says Charmed IS going to be on. How the hell are they going to do that?! If it’s not the original girls, then I’m not watching. Anyway, I guess that means no House Makeover for me. And of course I’ll be watching my favorite comedy What I Like About You.
On Cable: Nip/Tuck, Meet the Barkers, Ashlee Simpson Show (is it even still on?), Laguna Beach and whatever else I need to watch to satisfiy my inner teen.
What shows are you into?
A few weeks back I posted about what T.V. characters I most see myself as. This week, while watching my fabulous, syndicated, recorded shows, I found myself thinking “I wish I was…” or “Ooh, I want to marry …” So here are the lists that complete those thoughts.
I wish I was:
Phoebe Halliwell (Charmed) I would also settle just to be Alyssa Milano at any time including the Samantha Messelli days.
Buffy - the girl can kick some serious ass and she always looks great.
Lorelai Gilmore - I’m witty and funny, but nowhere near the same ballpark as this cool chick.
Punky Brewster - do I need a reason?
Summer (The OC) mostly so I can kiss Seth Cohen.
I want to marry:
Angel (from Buffy/Angel) - no explanation necessary, just watch one episode and you’ll know what I mean. I don’t even mind that he is a vampire.
Chandler Bing - I really am looking for a guy like him in the real world. So damn adorable!
Pacey Witter (Dawson’s Creek) - those close to me know I have a small obsession with this.
Eric (That 70’s Show)- again, just super cute.
Seth Cohen (The OC)
Nick (CSI)
Marc - the cute twin with the mullet from the 80’s sitcom Hogan Family.
Alex P. Keaton (or any other character, including Marty McFly, that he has ever played).
This is a great week for TV - daytime DVR anyway. Some fabulous series have begun to replay in syndication from the beginning. YAY! On the line up are Dawson’s Creek (which I am not actually taping because I’ve now officially seen every episode and I plan to just buy the boxed set later anyway), Charmed, Gilmore Girls (not quite from the beginning but close enough), and Sex and the City! YAHOO! OH! And Buffy will start fresh next Thursday. So excited!
Also currently on the record list:
Whose Line is it Anyway
Arrested Development
Joan of Arcadia (I am currently deep in denial that there will be no more Joan. BOO!)
Simpsons (new Sunday episodes only)
Meet the Barker’s
Random Animal Planet shows
& of course Britney & Kevin Greeseball Federline’s show
