Mmmm, thunder

I love it. Much like Rebilou posted recently, I love the thunder that comes with the monsoons we get in AZ.  I love that just now, I was able to open my window and listen to it as I was deep into Harry Potter. So happy.

Superhero Powers

Recently, I’ve been hanging out with comic book addicts that have turned me on to comic book movies. I saw Fantastic Four (twice, and loved it both times), both X-men movies, both Spiderman movies, and the Star Wars films (not the last two yet, but tonight & yes, I realize those are not comics).

It has gotten me thinking about what I would want my super power to be. You know (if you’ve read any of this site in the past) that I also love Buffy and Charmed. Both of which involve people with super human powers.

Pulling from all that I know, I still find it hard to narrow down what power I would want.

I know that I do NOT want the gross turn my body to rubber one (like on Fantastic Four or The Incredibles).

I really like the idea of being able to freeze time, move things with my mind, and heal people with my touch. Or better yet, be an omnipotent Jedi - then I could do all three (because I would have gotten enough strength to add the healing people and freezing time parts)

I can’t think of anything new I would want. What about you? What superhero power would you like to have?

Traits passed on

I know that I am a person who EASILY picks up on the traits of people I am around without even realizing it. I  tell you all of the countless number of times my parents would tell me to stop talking like whomever it was whose house I had just returned from. Or the time my mom came to TN after I’d been there with relatives for a week and said I was talking funny. Or after we’d lived in AZ for like a day and she was mad at how I was pronouncing my words (my bro was a culprit on this one too). I went to MI for 4 days, 4 short days, and came back talking like I’d never been to AZ at all (after having lived here for 10 years). I just pick up things easily.

So, it was no surprise to me when I realized that when I don’t want to do something, or don’t like what is going on I grunt/growl. Yes, I believe this started about 2 1/2 years ago or so. I didn’t notice I did it until a friend said “did you just grunt at me?” Apparently, something was said I wasn’t fond of. And sure enough, I had grunted. See below to find what lady in my life grunts when she is unpleased. The only one who I can figure I picked up this trait from. So sad, but ever true.

Finally here

Well, it has arrived. I have my brand new Harry Potter, the 6th installment in the series, on my table right now. It was a nightmareish evening getting the four copies (mine and some friends) I picked up. I don’t even want to relive the freaks that were out at Borders last night. And the tons of people, most of whom had children that should most certainly been in bed. We ended up waiting until 11:45 and then realized that there would be no chance of getting out of there before 2 a.m. and that there was a limit of 3 books per person. I was fed up and tired and suggested that we head to Wal-mart 10 minutes away to scope out the situation. (Heavenly music plays here) There was line, but it was maybe 100 people and the part that excited me most was the price tag of $15.98 each! At Borders I was going to pay $21.

I was through the line, dropped a book to a friend, dropped another friend at home, and in my bed, face washed, teeth brushed and all, by 1:00.

So there, Borders :)-

I’m officially the wimpiest person I know

Today I rushed off from work for a doctor’s appointment. I had to get a TB test for some paperwork to teach in IL. I knew the TB test was going to be a quick little thing with a small needled - much like an allergy shot- I mean it wasn’t like I was getting blood drawn or a tetnus shot or anything….

When it was all done, the nurse stepped back and as I started to breathe again said to me, “Umm, do you need to lay down a minute”.  I replied, “Do I look like I need to lay down? Never mind. I’ll just sit here a minute.” I sat there for a minute then started laughing at myself and reminded the nurse that I am not a needle person.

When I got in the car I felt like the biggest loser - no not someone from the TV show who successfully lost a huge amount of weight - but like a big. fat. wimpy. nerd.

Cartoon favorites

While in a conversation with some friends/co-workers the other day, I realized I was the odd one out when it came to favorite cartoon characters.

The two characters that I had the most controversial opinions of are the Cobra Twins from G.I. Joe (sing it now- Great American Hero, G.I. Joe) and Gargamel from Smurfs. Both bad guys. Both hated by many Saturday morning (at least back in the old days when this is the reason any of us even got out of bed on a non-school day) viewers.

Anyway, I realized while talking about it that I was the only one in the group that thought the following:

  • The Cobra Twins can be as crooked as they want to be because they are hot.
  • Gargamel is misunderstood and the Smurfs are the ones that made him bad in the first place because they alienated him (probably because he was big and not blue) all those years that we don’t see on T.V. I always felt so bad for him with no friend but a cat :( Poor Guy.

Dream Interpreter Needed

So my dreams have been entirely too crazy lately. For one, I’ve NEVER dreamt people with faces before. Last week I did for the first time! I mean I always know who is in my dreams and stuff, but they usually don’t have faces, just more of a sense that I know who it is. Bodies with no clear faces - weird. And usually I can wake up and know that I dreamt something because it wason my mind, or that it at least fits my life.

Then there was last night. This morning I woke up to the MOST BIZARRE dream ever!! I can’t make one lick of sense about it….

It started with me and three close friends sitting in a diner on a college campus. I had to be to evening class by 8, two of them had just come from their respective classes - one with nothing to do for the evening and one who had to meet her husband at home by 9, and the other one just met up with us on her way home from work and was trying to convince us that we needed to get plastered mid-week and set our adult responsibilities aside.

We decide to leave, not clear why or anything, and we pile into a very rugged safari type jeep with no top, very open. Rebilou was driving the safari jeep which apparently belonged to her. We thought nothing of it. Kelli hopped in shotgun and Amanda and I were in the back, getting anxious that the other two didn’t seem to understand that I had class and she needed to get home. We start to drive and pass what looks like a deserted zoo. Kelli got excited and says, “Ooh, I have to go there. It’s like a second home to me”. The zoo was named “The Clod” (what the hell is a clod?). Rebecca decided that it would be ok if she rammed the gate and drove us in.

Hanging over the gate was a branch that I grabbed. Bec stopped the jeep and we all looked at the amazingly large tree it was attached, too. Then I commented, “Wow, it looks like an overgrown ostrich”. It was then that the tree started to move since it actually WAS a giant ostrich (thing redwood sized) so Rebecca hit the gas. We drove about a 1/4 mile (’cause that will keep you safe from the giant ostrich) and then coasted. We saw two cubs playing - we knew they were going to be in the large cat family, but we had no idea what they were. They were clear as day to me though. I could draw them right now if I wanted. They had fuzzy kitten fur and were both spotted. One was tannish and gray the other was blackish and gray. They were cute, but we started to grow fearful because we were somehow in this wild safari land. We kept admiring animals - not real ones, all kinds of mixed breeds of things, for a short time. Then, they notice us - the animals that is and joined in a stampede toward the jeep, which Rebecca had thrown into reverse.

The part that made me say “what the hell?!” was that when the stampede started they turned into STUFFED ANIMALS - moving ones. Hehehe. And something that tried to stab at Amanda got it’s red-orange stuffed beak ripped off. WHAT?!

Seriously, someone who owns one, get the dream decoder out and fill me in and what the heck that was all about!!!

Had to change the name of this post, because I got spammed in my comments. GRRRR.

Dude! Look at this picture! My b00bs look so big to me. I love it!

By the way, I was on a fieldtrip and we were playing with lassos.

*Once I posted this, I looked at the photo again….the shadowing makes it look like you can see my nips. I assure you, you cannot. It’s all unfortunate shadow.

Golf

Yes, this will be classified in the “I am a dork” folder. One of my best friend’s long time boyfriend is a professional golfer playing in Hawaii this week. I was flipping channels and game upon the Golf Channel-airing a tournament live from HI. My thought “Ooh, cool I have to watch this to see if I can see Rob, or even better yet, see Kelli in the what’s that called oh yeah gallery”. Ok, so far only a little dorky….hold on to your seats. I watched it for over and hour. I hate how they whisper. Can’t they just wait and talk normal in between shots?
