Aunt Katherine? Aunt Kat? Aunt Gus?

My brother text messaged me an image recently. It was of the plus sign on his wife’s pregnancy test.
I’m going to be an aunt!! There really isn’t much more to say. I’m excited to meet this little dude (I’m convinced it will be a boy) when I am home in December. Heather is due on December 13th, so the baby will just be a few weeks old by the time I am able to get home to see him/her.

The situation poses a question in regards to my future title. I don’t really like Aunt KC. I prefer Aunt Katherine, but few people call me that and I’m not sure a little one would pick up on it. And I think Aunt Kat sounds hip and cool, but how do I start that one up? My brother jokingly said I should be Aunt Gus-gus, stemming from a teenage nickname, after the fat stupid mouse in Cinderella. Lovely, I know. That’s what little brothers are for, right? Strangely, I think it’s totally cool and just may ask my little neice or nephew to call me Aunt Gus. It’s original, right?

Izabella’s 1st birthday

Izabella Rose turns one year old.

Mike and I headed to MI to celebrate this little cuties 1st birthday. She is lovable and social and just the best daughter for my cousin - who never wanted a girl and had to get used to the idea. Now, I doubt she even remembers those days. This little blessing is such a joy. And while Izabella is friendly with everyone, there is something special between her and Mike that is just super sweet to watch.

Gated in

We have a fence, we have a fence, we have an awesome fabulous fence! So happy for a number of reasons.

#1) The hoodlums. Ok, fine, they are sweet little kids who I love to hear giggle as they play. BUT they have interpretted the greenbelt that is our backyards as one big yard. They come up and play on our patio and they bug the dog (not on purpose, but she doesn’t like them close to the house). So, I’m glad we have the fence to keep our space our own for the matter of liability - I would hate for someone to be injured on my property.

#2) Abby girl. Abby can now run and play without the tether. She has rejoined her beloved soccer ball and plays and plays as long as someone is out there with here. Such a house dog.

#3) Ricky. Rico can now go out, with supervision only, to play, eat grass, and get some exercise. One of my favorite new pasttimes is to sit and watch him chase bugs all around the yard. I think that sometimes he is playing GI Joe by himself back there, too :)

#4) I can sunbathe and it’s not creepy just laying out in the open being all vulnerable (I never did sunbathe last summer because of this reason)

#5) It makes out yard look all cozy and quaint but not too small. I plan to decorate with some flower boxes and hanging plants. We were going to landscape, but just don’t want to spend the money. Plus, we love having all this great green grass. Mike does such a nice job with it and prides himself on all of the compliments we get from the neighbors - we totally have the best yard on the block ;)

Summer oh Summer, where for art thou Summer

WHAT IS WITH THIS CRAZY COLD WEATHER!?!?
It is nearly June and it should simply NOT be this freaking cold here!
Mike won’t let me turn on the heat, but somtimes when he leave I kick it on for a bit to take the chill out of the air.
Will I ever get to enjoy the nice spring mornings on the patio? Or put away the long sleeves for a few months?
Damn global warming is messing everything up!
Go Green people!
