I found it!
When I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from ASU my parents bought me a gorgeous pearl ring with diamond side stones. Even the band was cut uniquely and it fit my finger perfectly. I loved it and wore it often.
Last year, I lost it. I was convinced that it’d either been stolen off my desk at work (sometimes I take it off to put on lotion) or fallen down the drain at the house I was living in (the sink had clogged and I’d taken the stop out months earlier). I’d left it on the counter in the bathroom, careful not to bump it or anything…well, I was convinced that It’d gone down the drain. I spent hours with a flashlight looking down that drain and tried to convince Mike to take the pipes apart. He wouldn’t. He wasn’t convinced it was in there.
He was right (shhh, don’t tell him I said that ;)). Last night, a year after I’d lost this ring, I was digging in a backpack that I used for softball last year and that I use on fieldtrip days. I had been on a fieldtrip and was transferring things like chapstick and gum back to my purse. I dug into a small pocket to grab my chapstick and wrapped my fingers around something cold, hard, and round. When I pulled my hand out I gasped the biggest gasp ever. Ironically, it was just this week that I spent a few minutes remembering my ring during the drive to work and even asked Mike if he thought that if it was in the drain, if it’d still be there now. He turned in shock after hearing my gasp and I proudly announced that I’d found my ring and held it up to prove it.
Then of course I had to call my parents and my old roommate to let them know the good news. I’m so, so happy to have found it! I’ll be wearing it often like before, but with even more care of where I put it each time it comes off my hand.
