Meeting the friends & family

I took Mike to Arizona with me over the Christmas holiday. He was excited to go and I was excited for everyone important in my life to spend some time with him.

We spent Christmas with my family. I picked Mike up from the airport around 1 and we went to my parents’ house and did the gift giving and opening (my new Jennie Finch pink bat was the highlight for me!). After that we had a nice dinner. We headed off to see Night at the Museum as our longtime family tradition. It was a great day.

On the 26th, we slept in (much needed!) then headed off to Sedona. I was happy to take Mike to the mountains for the first time. He used up all 4 of my memory cards taking pictures along the way. One our way to the mountains, I decided that the Grand Canyon isn’t all that much farther from Flagstaff (a stop that was on the agenda). We decided to go all the way to the south rim. It was cloudy and near sundown, so we will go back on another trip. It was still an awesome sight and again, I was glad to be the one with Mike the first time he saw it. We also stopped at the IMAX to experience that on the way back (my favorite part). We got to see elk up close, too! That was a special treat.

The rest of the days were filled with lunch or dinner dates with friends, a birthday dinner for my brother (mom send me some pics please!), and a special gift exchange and chatter time with my Ya-yas. And Mike got to golf twice.

The time with my Ya-yas was awesome! I wish they’d gotten even longer to know Mike better, but being 1,500 miles away makes that a bit of a challenge. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with my friends.

And just before we left for AZ, my best friend Melissa and her boyfriend Gil came for a visit. We spent most of the time cracking jokes and putting boxes in the right spot. We went in to Chicago for Gil’s brithday dinner at Ditkas and walked through the park. I was glad they were able to come visit!

And now….now I’m moved in. I have a little work left to do to unpack the master bed and bath, but the guest room is ready, and the living room and loft and kitchen look like someone lives here now. I’m excited to do the extra touches now! Until then, we are taking the rest of our winter break to rest.

And yes, they love him more than me :(

Blog craziness

I figured out what’s wrong with my blog site. Blog.com has updated their features. I have to rewrite the code to make it look nice.

I’ll be back in a bit to update this more. Please make due with the ugliness ;)

Sick Day

Ok, so I’m sick. I knew I would be. My roommate, her boyfriend, my boyfriend, my co-teacher, and several students had the seasonal cold in the last two weeks. I picked up a fresh supply of Airborne and prayed it would pass me over. I know better that though. I don’t have a strong immune system, so I haven’t complained about this until now. And my simple complaint won’t be about how everyone else battled this for three days and were fine and how I’m going on a week and have now lost my voice and seem to be getting sicker even still.

Oh no, my complaint about this cold is that I can’t open the damn cold medicine!! Seriously, an adult who resorts to taking medicine is usually so sick that they are hardly strong enough to get the glass of water much less battle with the packaging for the Nyquil they are relying on for a good night’s sleep. I understand that it’s for child safety, but come on! I’ll put it up high I promise. Just let me be able to open it!!

Maybe I’ll keep an empty Advil bottle. Then, when I’m not even sick, I’ll spend a Saturday morning opening Nyquil and Dayquil and store them in a bottle, so I can get to them during cold season. Sigh.

Does anyone else have this problem? What’s your solution?

SNOW DAY!

I knew a storm was coming. I knew that when I woke up this morning and looked out the window that I would see the wintery white blanket of snow on the grass. I was surprised when I woke up to my phone ringing instead of my alarm. It was a co-worker telling that school was closed. SNOW DAY!! Now, most people would think “Poop, now we have to stay an extra day in June”. My thought? “YAHOO!!! 3 day weekend!”

I was too excited to go to back to bed, so I drank some coffee and watched the snow come down. I watched the dogs run in the backyard celebrating the snow that they love. I called my parents and bragged that I got to stay home aaaalllll day.

It’s been great. It’s changed from ice to regular snow now, so I’m thinking about bundling up and shovelling the driveway. I don’t normally do that kind of outdoor chores, but I figure it’s a fun way to enjoy the snow.

My favorite part of today was this morning when I was looking out the window. The young children that live behind us were all bundled up in snow suits and out throwing snowballs before 8 a.m. I couldn’t help but smile.

I hope you are able to be cozy in your home today and enjoying the weather where you are.
